Marking the Brand’s Aims for China, the Capsule Is the First Partnership Between Zhan and Matteo Tamburini
Tod’s is set to launch its second collection created in partnership with Chinese actor and singer Xiao Zhan, who serves as the brand’s global ambassador.
Featuring bags, shoes, ready-to-wear, and accessories branded with an exclusive “Tod’s X” logo, the capsule collection follows Xiao Zhan’s first collaboration with Tod’s in 2022, during his time as China ambassador with then-creative director Walter Chiapponi. This new extension is Xiao’s first collaborative effort with Matteo Tamburini, who took over as Tod’s creative director in late 2023. “The creativity and ideas came in naturally,” Tamburini stated, “capturing the essence of Tod’s whilst introducing elements inspired by Xiao Zhan’s unique interpretation of modern simplicity and his understated fashion taste.”
Crafted by Tod’s Italian artisans, the collection includes the Di Bag Swing in earthy brown and gray tones with saddle-stitch detailing and a reverse handle design, the Tod’s X micro phone bag, T Vintage sneakers in brown/white and gray/white, a natural-tone scarf, and a double-layer collar shirt.
Xiao Zhan expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “I believe that the intersection of different styles and lifestyles meeting and blending through these objects makes for a beautiful experience. I recall my encounter with Tod’s as such a beautiful moment. The brand’s approach to life, that relaxed, effortless elegance combined with a deep passion, resonates with me deeply.”
The collection will launch Thursday on Tod’s website and in selected boutiques, supported by a primarily digital and out-of-home campaign.
Xiao Zhan, a member of the boy group X Nine, became Tod’s global ambassador in February. Known internationally after his role in the TV drama The Untamed, he has also fronted campaigns for brands including Gucci, JD.com, and Boucheron.
In recent corporate developments, Tod’s delisted from the Italian Stock Exchange in June and appointed John Galantic as CEO in September. Galantic, previously president and COO of Chanel Inc., took over from Diego Della Valle, who remains chairman, while his brother Andrea continues as vice chairman.
