The Costa Mesa, CA Store Builds on the Success of the Brand’s Manhattan Flagship
Delvaux has expanded its presence in the United States with the opening of a flagship store at South Coast Plaza Mall in Costa Mesa, California. The new location the brand’s second flagship in the U.S., following the success of its location on New York’s 5th Avenue.
The South Coast Plaza location is conceived as a carefully orchestrated space that blends elements from different eras, showcasing Delvaux’s dedication to dialogues between the past, present, and future.
The façade of the new flagship is particularly striking, featuring a geometric motif that nods to local bioclimatic architecture, bringing an outdoor feel into the mall setting and creating a playful contrast. Inside, visitors are greeted by a 1950s Ettore Sottsass Cubica console in dreamy pastel tones, reminiscent of 1950s California. It is prominently placed in front of a 1960s gold metallic totem room divider, originally from a Palm Springs mansion. This totem, found by Loubier in Paris, was brought back to its Californian roots, echoing the Hollywood glamour associated with the area and actress Elizabeth Taylor, who inspired Delvaux’s latest Caprice bag.
The store also features a ‘Bar’ area, designed to foster informal exchanges with clientele, reflecting the conviviality of everyday life in Belgium and broader European traditions. This space is intended to enhance the luxury shopping experience by emphasizing interaction and intimacy.
Further into the store is the Vic Room, which can be privatized for private breaks. It houses an exceptional pair of wood and leather cabinets designed in the 1950s by Jacques Adnet and Gilbert Poillerat. The room’s decor, including a comfortable sofa and a remarkable table by Jacques Duval Brasseur and artist Etienne Hajdu, creates an atmosphere of warmth and sophisticated comfort, with motifs that nod to Costa Mesa’s Hispanic heritage.
