Celine Expands Via Condotti Boutique in Rome

The Renovated Store More Than Doubles Its Retail Space, Introducing Dedicated Menswear and Womenswear Areas Alongside a Curated Art Collection

Celine has expanded its boutique on Rome’s Via dei Condotti, more than doubling the store’s retail space from 118 to 248 square meters. The renovation gives the French fashion house a larger presence on one of the Italian capital’s most prestigious shopping streets, with newly dedicated areas for menswear and womenswear.

The expansion builds upon the existing boutique, introducing a contemporary architectural language that balances natural stone, warm wood and polished metal. Throughout the store, a restrained palette of materials provides a backdrop for Celine’s collections, while carefully considered lighting emphasizes the relationship between the merchandise and the surrounding interiors.

The entrance opens onto a space dedicated to small leather goods, where Calcata Oyster marble, travertine and wood are complemented by touches of gold. Glass display cases and open shelving create a clean, architectural presentation, allowing the house’s handbags and accessories to take center stage.

A redesigned passageway on the main floor connects the original boutique with the newly added retail space, which is devoted entirely to womenswear. The extension allows Celine to present its ready-to-wear collections within a more spacious environment, with additional room for accessories and footwear.

The existing staircase has also been given renewed prominence through a graphic treatment that emphasizes verticality and light, establishing a visual connection between the boutique’s different levels.

On the basement floor, an entirely new menswear environment introduces a darker, more masculine atmosphere. Rich marble finishes and a Basaltina stone floor laid in a herringbone pattern distinguish the space from the lighter interiors above. The dedicated men’s department also incorporates a lounge and two fitting rooms, providing a more private and relaxed shopping experience.

Art remains an important element of the boutique’s identity. The existing store features No Configuration, a 2021 work by Swedish artist Daniel Jensen, whose practice moves between abstraction and figuration, drawing upon references from contemporary culture and the natural world.

The 2026 extension introduces another artistic perspective through Portrait of a Child Wearing a Hat, an oil painting dating to approximately 1850 and attributed to the 19th-century Italian School. The portrait brings a historical dimension to the contemporary interior, establishing a subtle connection between the French house and its Roman setting.

The contrast between the two works reflects Celine’s approach to incorporating art into its retail environments, where pieces from different periods contribute to the character of each location without overwhelming the architecture.

With the additional space, the Via dei Condotti boutique can now accommodate a more complete presentation of Celine’s collections while offering greater separation between its men’s and women’s departments.

The renovation also reflects the continuing importance of physical retail for luxury houses, particularly in established destinations such as Rome, where the store environment remains an important expression of brand identity.

Rather than introducing an entirely new location, Celine has chosen to build upon its existing presence, giving the boutique greater scale while maintaining its connection to the surrounding historic streetscape. The result is a more expansive setting for the house’s collections, bringing together contemporary design and art within one of Rome’s best-known luxury shopping addresses.
