What’s black, white, and red all over? The streets of Copenhagen during Spring 2025 fashion week. The city’s street style set opted for many looks that paired the classic, high-contrast simplicity of black and white with energetic bursts of scarlet, at once subverting and leaning into our typical expectations for a summer color palette.
The trend is perhaps influenced by the “unexpected red theory” that has taken interior design TikTok by storm this year, which claims that a pop of red in any form has a unifying, elevating effect on a space. While it’s tough to track exactly how connected these two trends are, there’s no denying that a red detail in an otherwise neutral outfit has a deliciously vibrant and bold effect.
Nonetheless, many of the looks we saw opted for all-over red instead of just a dash, while others stuck to the tried-and-true simplicity of just black and white. Another fun way this trend played out saw groups and pairs mostly in black and white with one individual in red, thus extending the impact from a single look to an almost editorial-like group moment.
