Review of Bottega Veneta ‘Wardrobe 02’ Pre-Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Daniel Lee with Photographer Tyrone Lebon
Bottega Veneta lifts the lid on its latest wardrobe with a new Pre-Fall campaign. “Wardrobe 02” once again sees Bottega working with photographer Tyrone Lebon, who recently has been instrumental in conveying the house’s vision of seductively pared-back luxury.
Lebon’s campaign imagery is stripped-back and straight forward, putting the entirety of the emphasis on the collection, which synthesizes elegantly tailored minimalism with subversively maximalist elements.
Daniel Lee’s penchant for cerebral suiting is out in full force. But he also experiments with breaking up the silhouettes of classically-minded jackets and dresses with a unique cut, a nipped waist, or an unexpected burst of bright color. Green and yellow make numerous appearances among the black and metallic neutrals, and unique choices in shoes finish off many a look’s a feeling of idiosyncrasy and independence.
Though the focus is almost entirely on the clothing, the campaign does comprise a large and unique cast. From musicians like Arca, Nenah Cherry, and Skepta to top models like Anok Yai and Anna Ewers, a wide range of personalities step up to personify the sense of independently minded luxury.
A major part of Bottega Veneta’s unique approach to luxury is a consistent and complete lack of logos – a relative rarity in today’s monogram and logo-saturated scene. But the brand smartly counterbalances this design approach with art direction that relies almost exclusively on the brand’s name in its iconic typeface, and every campaign image is proudly emblazoned with it.
The approach is an excellent way to communicate the brand’s quiet yet unflinching confidence in what they do.
