Review of Dolce & Gabbana “DNA” Spring 2024 Ad Campaign by Art Director Fabien Baron and Photographer Steven Meisel with model Lulu Tenney
Dolce & Gabbana is distilled down to its essence with a new campaign for its Spring 2024 DNA collection, shot by photographer Steven Meisel with art direction from Fabien Baron.
Meisel brings his signature style of refined black-and-white portraiture to lensing the campaign, putting the focus on the collection’s crisply elegant silhouettes. Nonetheless, the energy of model Lulu Tenney cannot be contained, and she brings a scintillating energy of exaggerated drama and fun.
In both its collections and campaigns, Dolce & Gabbana has made a welcome push in recent move on from its heavy-handed attempts at youth appeal and get back to its classic take on refined Italian elegance that still has a bit of a seductive edge. The elegant minimalism of this campaign – which is nonetheless rendered playful by its expressive and talented star – is another strong example of that refocusing, and will appeal to both longtime fans of the brand and young luxury aficionados alike.
