Fall 2024 Ad Campaign

Review of Etro Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Marco de Vincenzo and Photographer Colin Dodgson with models Adele Aldighieri, Alex Consani, Elise Kouzou, Nuno Marques

Etro sets off for a modern odyssey with its Fall 2024 campaign by photographer Colin Dodgson.

In designing the collection, creative director Marco de Vincenzo took a somewhat more darkly seductive and adventurous approach, drawing on Ancient Greek drama, 1920s occultism, and seductive contemporary elegance with a bit of dark academia flavor to imagine a latter-day cult of Bacchus.

The campaign carries this inspiration forward, further solidifying the presence of myth by drawing direct reference from Homer’s Odyssey. Dodgson captures his crew of elegant adventurers on location in Messina, Sicily, as they prepare to embark on a sea voyage of their own. This location also happens to be the hometown of Marco de Vincenzo, a beautiful detail that introduces a further thread of personal connection into the story – The Odyssey is, after all, about coming home.

While it could have been interesting to see some more distinct narrative moments or creative references to the source material, the open-ended quality of the images – we know this is the beginning of a journey, but we don’t know for what or to where – does create a sense of mystery and invites the viewer to imagine their own story. The almost mystical setting is also a perfect backdrop for the darkly romantic character of the collection, and these ornate patterns tell stories of their own.
