Buzzoni to Lead Gucci’s Global PR and Corporate Communications Strategy
Gucci has appointed Davide Buzzoni as its new global communications director. Buzzoni, who brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at Loro Piana, Moncler, Prada Group, and Burberry, will report directly to Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Alessio Vannetti.
In his new role, Buzzoni will oversee global press office activities and corporate communications, ensuring a cohesive narrative that aligns with Gucci’s values and vision, the company announced. He steps into the position following the departure of Benjamin Cercio, who left the brand in March after serving as Senior Vice President of Global Communications. Cercio had joined Gucci in November 2022 after a long tenure at Louis Vuitton.
Buzzoni’s appointment comes amid broader leadership changes at Gucci’s parent company, Kering. In May, Kering brought on Louis Vuitton communications executive Stefano Cantino as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gucci, a newly created role. Cantino is working closely with Jean-François Palus, CEO of Gucci, and Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s Deputy CEO in charge of brand development, to revitalize the brand under the creative direction of Sabato De Sarno.
Gucci’s recent performance has fallen short of expectations, with organic sales dropping 19 percent in the second quarter, surpassing analysts’ forecasts of a 17 percent decline. Reported revenues also fell by 20 percent, totaling 2 billion euros. Kering’s management is now focusing on the launch of four new handbag lines in September, alongside a collection of ready-to-wear essentials, as they aim to return the brand to growth.
