Review of Juun.J Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer Hong Janghyun with model Kirsten Owen
Juun.J boldly re-emphasizes its mastery of silhouette and volume with a monochromatically majestic Fall 2024 campaign.
The imagery was lensed by photographer Hong Janghyun, who captures model Kirsten Owen as she chameleonically embodies creative director Jung Wook Jun’s ability to bring distinct garment categories within his own singularly powerful perspective. Denim and leather jackets and classic wool overcoats are reconsidered with angular shoulders and sculptural volumes to expand the boundaries of the body. Meanwhile, though it seems like it would have a completely different character, a sparkly strapless dress with a ballooning gathered skirt fits seamlessly within this lexicon of powerful modernist style.
In connection with this idea of mutual reflection across ostensibly different categories, another striking aspect of the campaign is its feeling of gender neutrality. While that aforementioned dress and a corseted denim bustier do feel strictly conceived as women’s pieces, most of the garments have a more typically masculine edge. The strong casting choice thus takes on even more direction; this isn’t a men’s or a women’s campaign, but simply a statement of Juun.J’s Fall collection free of modifiers. United by the powerful persona of Kirsten Owens and seen cohesively through Hong Janghyun’s dramatic black-and-white lens, that collection and its campaign are another bold statement of Juun.J’s boundary-breaking expression of stylish strength.
