Miu Miu Launches Summer Reads Project in Multiple Cities
Following up on its inaugural Literary Club event held during Milan Design Week, Miu Miu is launching “Summer Reads,” a campaign that spotlights books as a key element in its ongoing dedication to modern culture and thought. The initiative is set to take place on June 7th and 8th, 2024, in various selected cities across the globe. During this event, Miu Miu will transform existing newsstands and set up new ones where visitors will receive free copies of two of three significant works by female authors: Forbidden Notebook by Alba de Céspedes, A Woman by Sibilla Aleramo, and Persuasion by Jane Austen.
These books were chosen because each one comes from a different time and place yet shares a common thread—the authors’ groundbreaking roles as female writers. Their works, which are still widely respected and discussed, delve into themes and ideologies pertinent to contemporary issues. These authors are celebrated for their unique perspectives and their reflections on the complex roles of women as daughters, lovers, wives, and mothers. By challenging traditional norms and gender constraints, these writers continue to inspire new generations of women with their literary contributions.
This new initiative follows Miu Miu’s Literary Club event, “Writing Life,” which showcased the works of Italian writers Aleramo and De Céspedes during the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April. The goal of the event was to promote literature and the arts through talks, readings, and music performances centered on the authors’ landmark books, exploring women’s roles in society.
