'Our time has come' Fall 2021 Ad Campaign

Review of Stella McCartney ‘Our time has come’ Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Photographers/Directors Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

The animal kingdom has reclaimed the streets of human society in the latest campaign from Stella McCartney. With direction and photography by Mert Atlas and Marcus Piggott, the joyful and humorous Fall 2021 campaign takes the form of a nature mockumentary with narration by British comedian David Walliams.

Titled “Our Time Has Come,” the campaign imagines a world where animals (well, more or less) have entered human society and live among them as equals. In energetic street-style cinematography, adorable and adorably weird animal heads perch atop Stella-clad bodies, strutting their stuff down the avenues of London. Walliams channels David Attenborough as he narrates the behaviors of these curious creatures, who have more in common with us than we may think.

In addition to being an uplifting and joyful look at the return to the new normal, the campaign is a smart way to express the brand’s values of environmentalism and especially ending animal cruelty. Looking closer, we can recognize that all of the animals here have been or continue to be exploited by the industry.

While this campaign is light-hearted. I wanted to address a serious issue: ending the use of fur.

The brand continues to set a strong example that conscious, vegan clothing and luxury are not at all incompatible.

As well as the ethical concern, more and more consumers are actively reflecting on how to make conscious purchasing decisions, and in this connection Stella McCartney’s highly visible respect for the natural world is just smart marketing. The campaign excellently exemplifies the brand’s attitude and values – inviting us not just to laugh, but also to think.
