Pre-Spring 2023 Ad Campaign

Review of Tod’s ‘Summer Interlude’ Pre-Spring 2023 Ad Campaign by Creative Directors Kevin Tekinel and Charles Levai with Photographer Karim Sadli and Videographer Toby Knott with models Anna Ewers, Joshua Seth, Nora Attal, and Valentin Caron.

Italian escapism is made modern in Tod’s nostalgia-tinged ode to travel, as the house takes us on a journey through southern Italy, a region which is experiencing a surge in interest due to the popularity of viral TV shows.

Utilising the rustic charm of a sun-baked villa, there is an undeniable magic about the return to closely guarded locales over far-flung destinations. The campaign, shot in and around a rural Masseria in Apulia highlights this pre-spring 2023 collection of seasonal essentials, rendered in a simple palette of warm neutrals that are uplifted through natural textures of raffia, rubber, and suede, which are replicated in the stone surfaces which provide the background for the campaigns accessories.

Silhouettes are reminiscent of the 1990s, with a sleeker take on safari in the form of the four-pocket jacket and the square-toe loafer furnished with the requisite chunky hardware. The images, shot in black-and-white, with deep-cast shadows, or featuring simple interior touches, is also evocative of the time.

In titling the campaign ‘Summer Interlude’, Tod’s Creative Director Walter Chiapponi is acknowledging the small pockets of time we have to enjoy the magic of the summer season, especially in the current uncertain climate, and by reaching back to a simpler time of travel with a trunk case, there is a desire to eschew the unnecessary and adopt the ease of androgynous silhouettes.
