Though bags and shoes continue to be the biggest driving factor of sales in luxury fashion, accessories campaigns can often play second fiddle to seasonal ready-to-wear campaigns in terms of their scope and creativity in conceiving and building out narrative. This season, however, saw an exciting push from some labels to capitalize on the opportunity offered by an accessories campaign and think more deeply about what the format can say about their brand. Many campaigns created an immersive aesthetic or engrossing narrative out of the unique identity of the accessories themselves.

Valentino brought its own spin to the accessories campaign trend of capturing mostly or entirely naked bodies clothed only the star accessories like bags, shoes, or jewelry, with very different, yet similarly successful and intimate, results, while the freshly relaunched Paul Andrew created an aesthetic of dark glamor by putting its star shoes in conversation with bodies and carefully crafted makeup and nails.

Always on point when it comes to accessories campaigns, Gucci‘s “Valigeria” campaign in particular drew out the totemic power of a monogrammed piece of Gucci luggage into a mystical and cinematic visual narrative.

While a collaboration with the beloved Studio Ghibli and its iconic film Spirited Away was basically guaranteed to result in a whimsical and incredibly popular capsule, Loewe did a great job of bringing the magic of animation into its own signature campaign style.
