Chanel Next Prize Announces Winners

Spanning Many Creative And Artistic Disciplines, The 10 Inaugural Prize Winners Were Chosen by Jurors Tilda Swinton, Cao Fei, and Sir David Adjaye

The Chanel Next Prize is a new global award to meant to catalyze innovation across arts and culture. Launched as part of Chanel’s expanded engagement with arts and culture, the global prize aims to provide an emerging generation of creative risk-takers with resources to tackle ambitious new projects and ideas. 

The 10 winners, spanning the fields of film, dance, art, theater, design, and music, join Chanel’s growing community of innovators working to infuse new ideas into the arts ecosystem and effect positive change in culture and society. 

Chosen by a panel of three impressive jurors – British actor Tilda Swinton, Chinese multi-media artist Cao Fei, and Ghanaian-British architect Sir David Adjaye – the winners will each receive €100,000 in funding as well as access to mentorship and networking opportunities. 

The 10 Winners are theater director Marie Schleef, dancer and choreographer Botis Seva, composer and performer Jing Jae-Il, filmmaker and producer Wang Bing, dancer and choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas, filmmaker Rungano Nyoni, dame designer and developer Lual Mayen, artist collective Keiken, filmmaker Eduardo Williams, and artist and poet Precious Okoyomon.

The prize extends Chanel’s legacy of arts patronage that began with its founder’s desire to be part of what happens next – “ce qui va arriver.”
