Zegna Launches Vellus Aureum Collection

Exclusive collection debuts with SS25, featuring world-record fleece

Zegna has introduced Vellus Aureum, an ultra-fine Merino wool collection developed as part of the brand’s ongoing pursuit of textile excellence. This initiative honors the legacy of founder Ermenegildo Zegna, whose goal was to produce the highest quality fabrics in the world.

The name Vellus Aureum references the Golden Fleece from Greek mythology, symbolizing rarity and excellence. The fibre, sourced from pure-bred Merino sheep, represents less than 0.05% of the global wool supply annually. With an average fineness between 12 and 13 microns—surpassing even the finest cashmere—Vellus Aureum is among the rarest and most refined wools available.

The origins of the collection date back to 1963, when Ermenegildo Zegna established the Wool Trophy Awards in Australia to support woolgrowers in producing high-quality fibres. In 2023, Zegna set a new world record with a single fleece measuring just 9.4 microns, furthering its commitment to innovation.

Produced entirely in Italy, Vellus Aureum aligns with Zegna’s Road to Traceability initiative, with a goal of making the fibre 100% traceable by 2025. The brand is also introducing a digital passport stored on the Aura Blockchain, allowing consumers to track the garment’s origins by scanning an NFC tag.

A global advertising campaign launching on February 6 will highlight Vellus Aureum through themes of slow living and understated luxury. Set in a Milanese villa, the campaign features Italian entrepreneur and vintage watch collector Auro Montanari, reflecting Zegna’s focus on craftsmanship and timeless design.

Debuting in the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, the Vellus Aureum line includes a full wardrobe of suits, knitwear, and the Il Conte jacket. The collection, protected by a registered trademark, will be available exclusively at select ZEGNA stores worldwide.

By introducing Vellus Aureum, Zegna continues to advance its founder’s vision, combining heritage craftsmanship with modern innovation to create one of the most refined textiles in the industry.
