Zuhair Murad Channels Heroine’s Inner Torment in Couture Collection
Zuhair Murad’s latest collection sought to reflect his heroine’s inner turmoil, showcasing emotion through glittering silhouettes with a burst of anger. Jagged shard-like adornments and chaotic embroideries added drama to the designs, symbolizing a cry for help.
Speaking backstage before the show, Murad explained, “This silhouette is really not the princess dress at all, she’s more structured, more strong, edgier, sexier. What we are doing now is to develop this in a modern way to meet with our world.”
The collection featured jagged shards on minidresses, tailored leather jackets, and diagonal draping, symbolizing psychological wounds on display for all to see. Explosive embroideries and pearl-bedecked bodysuits added to the dramatic narrative, evoking Champagne bubbles and tears.
One satin number with a hole surrounded by black embroideries suggested a bullet wound, with show notes stating, “She had no weapons.” Murad’s silhouettes emphasized elongated figures, high necklines, square shoulders, and velvet or chiffon stoles trailing behind the models on the runway.
Although there were no princess dresses in sight, the collection catered to the inner drama queen, showcasing strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
