Squarely pointed, subversive and sexy for most occasions other than running for a taxi!
Whether the 80s or Y2K, past eras have plenty to answer for, with inspiration evident across Fashion Month collections. Consequently, S/S 23 offered up ideas from the past, including killer pointed toes. Some, slightly squared, the idea that they are still, at least, not so toe-crunching. One of the most flattering shapes to re-emerge, these shoes compliment the leg, elongate the foot, and work for most occasions other than running to catch a taxi!
The appeal is never-ending, particularly with summer and parties front of mind. Dsquared2 delivered on point with a youthful array of pointy pumps infused with ‘a hint of razor-sharp 80s power dressing’. Sports hybrid styles appeared, with Ferrari presenting a color-blocked edition complete with Rosso le Mans Red and Giallo Modena yellow. With this theme top of mind, Mark Fast introduced a sports version with laces and racer colour blocking.
David Koma offered up dangerously high heels with steel caps, but they looked the part while at Givenchy and Coperni, both had a similar idea of presenting metal posts for the heels. The kitten heel is always a perennial, and Christopher Kane offered some severe winged points but balanced these with easy-walking heels. For those looking for a perennial classic, Loewe and Bottega Benetta’s exquisitely crafted shoes shone in Italian leather– not to mention Prada’s Mary Janes – all keepsakes for the future.
Last but not least, the appeal for over-the-top embellishments has been omnipresent for S/S 23. Prabal Gurung’s addition of an organza bow was sleek and pretty, but Saint Laurent’s pointed-toe delights made the FROW ladies sigh with pleasure; covered in satin, these were sleek and classic with a discreet subversiveness written all over.
