Carolina Herrera to Receive 2024 Hispanic Heritage Award for Fashion
Carolina Herrera is set to be honored with the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Award for Fashion at the 37th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards (HHAs) on Sept. 5 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Opera House. Established in 1988 by the White House to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month in America, the HHAs are supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions.
“It is an honor to receive the prestigious Hispanic Heritage Award which recognizes the tremendous contributions and legacy of Latinos in the United States and the world,” said Herrera. “I am proud to have the chance to celebrate our rich heritage and achievements with my fellow honorees in September.”
Antonio Tijerino, HHF president and chief executive officer, expressed excitement about honoring Carolina Herrera, calling her “a true global icon who has represented our community with such tremendous vision, determination and grace throughout her historic career.”
Herrera presented her first women’s ready-to-wear collection in 1981, leading to the growth of the House of Herrera into a global luxury brand. Puig, the company that owns brands like Herrera and Jean Paul Gaultier, recently went public in Spain’s largest listing since 2015. The IPO valued Puig at 13.9 billion euros and was multiple times oversubscribed, according to the company.
Throughout her illustrious career, Carolina Herrera has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion, and the CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. The HHAs, broadcast nationally on PBS, are recognized as one of the highest honors for Latinos by Latinos, celebrating excellence in various categories and disciplines.
