An Army of Love
As Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7” filled the air, the crowd at Palais de Tokyo watched humans of all types, dressed alike, parading around the square pool, embodying gentleness and positivity. Owens described them as “an army of Hollywood extras in white satin” and emphasized the need for love and tolerance in today’s world.
For this unique spectacle, Owens titled it “The Rick Owens Army of Love Movie,” symbolizing a resistance to intolerance and a promotion of tolerance in aesthetics. Owens enlisted 200 models, including students and faculty from local fashion schools, showcasing a range of designs from belted jedi robes to shredded bodysuits.
The procession of models brought to mind religious gatherings or scenes from sci-fi movies, culminating in a silent protest with determined faces expressing unity and support. Owens highlighted the beauty in supporting each other and embracing diversity in personal expression.
While the show marked a historic moment in fashion, Owens assured fans of his darker aesthetic that there will be plenty of black options in the showroom.
