Toteme Opens Permanent Aspen Store

Swedish Brand Brings Minimalist Design to Colorado’s Ski Town

On December 3, 2024, Swedish fashion house Toteme opened its first permanent store in Aspen, Colorado, following a temporary residency at Max in 2022. Located at 461 East Hopkins Avenue, the 1,400-square-foot boutique explores the shared heritage of Swedish and American craftsmanship through a contemporary design lens.

The store’s design reflects a balance of artisanal craftsmanship and minimalism, aligning with Aspen’s mountain culture. Graphic tapestry, handwoven in Sweden using traditional techniques, wraps the space from floor to ceiling and features in rugs and upholstery, creating a cohesive visual statement. Custom furniture and large birchwood columns add structural warmth, with each piece emphasizing comfort and natural materials. The birch, native to both Sweden and Colorado, adds regional relevance to the store’s aesthetic.

Art plays a key role in the boutique’s ambiance. Swedish artist Åke E:son Lindman’s Terra Ignota chemigrams bring abstract, dreamlike landscapes to the walls. Other notable design elements include a ceramic vase by Yuji Ueda and handwoven cotton-wool pieces by Vandra, further enhancing the store’s tactile environment.

The curated space features Toteme’s latest ready-to-wear collections, shoes, and accessories, tailored to suit the Aspen lifestyle. The design was realized in collaboration with Halleroed, a Swedish design studio that frequently works with the brand.

The Aspen store solidifies Toteme’s foothold in the U.S. market while embracing the cultural ties between Scandinavian and American craftsmanship.
