Prada to Open First Standalone Dining Space in Asia

Shanghai’s Rong Zhai mansion will host a new café and restaurant designed by Wong Kar Wai

Prada is set to unveil its first independent dining space in Asia at Rong Zhai, its restored historical mansion and art space in downtown Shanghai. Named Mi Shang, meaning “be obsessed with” in Chinese, the café and restaurant project was conceptualized by Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai. Inspired by the philatelic concept of tête-bêche—two identical stamps linked with one flipped upside down—the restaurant’s logo reflects this idea, while Wong’s signature cinematic style influences its interior design.

Located on the second floor of the four-story Rong Zhai, Mi Shang will offer an all-day café service alongside a fine dining experience, with Italian cuisine influenced by Chinese flavors. “The idea of reflection, adjacency, and correspondence hints at the intersection of two great cultures, connecting Milan and Shanghai in a visual dialogue that is both sophisticated and unique,” Prada stated. The café and restaurant will open on March 31, operating daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with reservations available from March 29 via its WeChat Mini Program.

The launch will be celebrated with a cocktail reception on March 28 at Rong Zhai. This marks Prada’s second collaboration with Wong, following their previous partnership on a capsule collection inspired by his TV series Blossoms Shanghai.
