The rising star joins Givenchy under Sarah Burton’s new creative direction, reflecting the house’s continued focus on modern womanhood.
Givenchy has named Chinese actress Zhang Ruonan as its new brand ambassador in China, effective immediately. The appointment comes as the house continues to build its presence in Asia under the creative direction of Sarah Burton.
Ruonan signaled the partnership earlier this year, attending Burton’s debut Givenchy show in March wearing a striking papaya-colored, one-sleeve dress paired with a mini Antigona bag in box leather. Her official ambassador role now formalizes her connection to the brand as it deepens its engagement with the Chinese market.
The actress gained prominence in 2018 with her performance in the coming-of-age film Cry Me a Sad River, and has since expanded her profile with roles in projects such as The First Frost, further cementing her international appeal. Known for her nuanced performances and understated personal style, Ruonan also maintains a strong digital presence with over 15 million followers on Weibo, 26 million on Douyin, and 5.4 million followers on Xiaohongshu.
Ruonan’s appointment aligns with Burton’s evolving creative narrative at Givenchy, which has centered on “multigenerational womanhood” and a renewed focus on female perspectives. The brand’s Fall 2025 campaign, shot by Collier Schorr, featured several models and backstage talent from Burton’s debut show, reflecting a woman-centric vision in both cast and creative direction.
Givenchy’s ambassador roster also includes Fan Chengcheng—Ruonan’s co-star on a recent reality show and the younger brother of actress Fan Bingbing—suggesting a broader strategy of cultivating talent with both cultural relevance and digital influence.
As Burton continues to shape a new era at Givenchy, the appointment of Zhang Ruonan marks another step in connecting the house’s legacy of elegance with a new generation of women in China and beyond.
