The move towards more conservative values and the ozempification of the fashion and entertainment industries has reversed beauty standards to the ultra-feminine ideals of the 1950s. And let’s face it, the 1990s when it came to the waif-like figures of the models on the runways. Silhouettes that emphasised feminine ideals were seen across the season, with the hourglass the template du jour.
Skirt suits were inspired by the fifties and were seen at Sergio Hudson (slimline and decorated with a corsage), Matières Fécales (a riff on Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’), Acne Studios (Tonal twinsets and circle skirts), and Stella McCartney (peplum-hemmed and fur-trimmed). The midi shift dress remained prim yet modernised with folds around the hips at Micheal Kors, with a nod to the 90s in black satin at Calvin Klein and layered with sporty trims at Prada. The cocoon coat, a key outerwear piece from the fifties, was rendered in spongey textures and cozy wools at No.21.
