The house expands its design language into the home with a series of willow baskets created with master basketmaker Eddie Glew.
JW Anderson has announced it will unveil a new Basket Bag at Salone del Mobile.Milano, continuing its exploration of heritage craft through a collaboration with English sculptor and basketmaker Eddie Glew.
Made from British willow, the project marks a further chapter in the relationship between the label and Glew, who previously created a series of large-scale willow baskets for JW Anderson’s Fall 2026 collection. That earlier work introduced a compelling exchange between traditional basketry and the house’s more conceptual design language. In Milan, the collaboration moves that conversation into a more functional, product-driven format.
Set to debut during the fair, the collection includes handwoven pieces finished with chocolate vegetable-tanned leather. The designs draw on the structure and decorative detailing of medieval storage chests, giving the project a historical framework that feels closely aligned with JW Anderson’s ongoing interest in craft, material culture, and reinterpreted utility.
The Milan presentation also expands beyond display. During Design Week, Glew will give live demonstrations of his woodcarving process at JW Anderson’s Via Sant’Andrea store, carving flowers from a single piece of wood using a shave horse, a draw knife, and hand techniques. Visitors will receive one of the finished flowers, packaged with a protective wrap and an informational postcard.
That demonstration adds a more personal dimension to the project. Flower carving was one of the first skills Glew learned from his father, shaped by a Romany tradition of carving blossoms from wood with a pocketknife. In the context of Milan Design Week, the gesture brings the collaboration closer to its source: an exchange rooted in making, memory, and the preservation of vernacular skill.
For JW Anderson, the Salone debut reinforces a broader strategy that continues to place craftsmanship at the center of brand expression, while using the design fair format to deepen its cultural and creative reach.
