The temporary space marks the House’s return to the city where Gabrielle Chanel established her first couture house
Chanel opened an ephemeral boutique in Biarritz at 3 Rue Gardères, marking its first dedicated presence in the city since Gabrielle Chanel established her couture house there in 1915. The boutique, open through September 27, reconnects the brand with a location that played a foundational role in shaping its early identity.

Situated near the historic center, the space draws on Art Deco references while integrating Chanel’s established design codes. The façade features a structured composition of three display windows framed by pilasters and topped with a white awning, with half-moon bay windows completing the architectural profile. The boutique is divided into two interconnected areas linked by an outdoor terrace.
The interior is organized into distinct sections for accessories and ready-to-wear. The accessories space incorporates geometric elements through staircases, shelving, mirrors, and stone flooring, while the ready-to-wear area is defined by black-lacquered pillars and a burgundy counter, maintaining a restrained visual language.
The boutique currently presents the Chanel Coco Beach 2026 collection, which introduces seasonal silhouettes informed by Gabrielle Chanel’s approach to leisurewear. Designs reference elements such as day pyjamas, knitwear, and nautical motifs, with adaptations of the double C and striped patterns.
The opening aligns with Chanel’s broader strategy of activating historically significant locations within its network. The brand is also set to present its Cruise 2026/27 collection in Biarritz, reinforcing the city’s ongoing relevance within Chanel’s narrative of movement, leisure, and modern dress.
