The relocated store brings the Maison’s architectural retail language to a new third-floor space while extending its dialogue between fashion, design and contemporary art
Alaïa has unveiled its renewed boutique at Plaza 66 in Shanghai, relocating the store to the mall’s third floor. The new space continues the Maison’s established retail design approach, combining architectural references, material contrasts and an emphasis on craftsmanship within a more intimate environment.
The boutique’s façade incorporates circular geometric elements that reinterpret Alaïa’s perforated motif, while a central glass frontage introduces a sense of openness. Inside, curved organic lines are set against sharper geometric forms, reflecting the contrast between fluidity and structure that has long defined the Maison’s approach to clothing.
A monochrome palette of black and white runs throughout the space, with Carrara marble, Macassar ebony wood and stainless steel providing contrasting textures. Nude-toned leather softens the entrance and fitting rooms, introducing a warmer counterpoint to the boutique’s more architectural materials.
The interior also includes selected furniture by Brazilian designer Sergio Rodrigues alongside pieces specially designed by Philippe Malouin. Their sculptural forms and curved profiles extend the store’s visual language while reinforcing Alaïa’s continued use of furniture and design as part of its retail identity.
Continuing the Maison’s relationship with contemporary art, the boutique presents Chinese artist Guan Xiao’s Things I Couldn’t Forget – Nose Ornament, Quimbaya, Colombia (2019). The work combines dyed fiberglass, spiral wire, stainless steel tubing and industrial components, bringing together materials and references that reflect Guan’s interest in transformation, construction and shifting cultural contexts.
The Shanghai reopening positions the boutique as more than a point of sale, extending Alaïa’s strategy of connecting its retail environments with art and design. As luxury brands continue to invest in increasingly differentiated physical spaces, the Plaza 66 location reinforces Alaïa’s emphasis on creating an environment that reflects the same balance of sensuality, precision, fluidity and structure found in its fashion.
