Review of Calvin Klein Fall 2023 Ad Campaign by Directors and Photographers Inez and Vinoodh with talent Alexa Demie, Kid Cudi, JENNIE, Jung Kook and Kendall Jenner

Calvin Klein serves stripped-back star power in its new campaign for Fall 2023. Amping up the brand’s approach of celebrity collaborations, photography duo Inez & Vinoodh capture a cast featuring Jennie of Blackpink, Jungkook of BTS, Alexa Demie, Kendall Jenner, and Kid Cudi.

While elements of Inez and Vinoodh’s photographic approach to the campaign continue the familiar Calvin Klein practice of simple and intimate black-and-white portraiture, the imagery also takes the formula in new directions of energy and setting. Jennie, for example, poses glamorously on a bare, brightly lit stage; Kid Cudi is half-submerged in water; Alexa Demie sports a vintage look in an elegant interior. In a short film that accompanies the imagery, Jungkook cuts loose and channels retro Americana energy as he dances across an empty parking garage and poses in front of a muscle car to the tune of Gary Numan’s classic “Cars.” We can expect that individual video spots of each of the stars may follow.

The styling, too, expands beyond the typical offerings of denim and underwear. These elements are definitely a key component, but they are both dressed up and dressed down as they are layered among crisp blazers or flirty crop tops, formal great coats or little black dresses.

In terms of the high-caliber celebrity of each of its stars, this is one of the biggest Calvin Klein campaigns we’ve seen yet, and it does nice work to match this ambitious casting with an expansive yet cool and composed visual perspective.
