Review of Givenchy Holiday 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer Mark Kean with models Mary Ukech & Milo de Clerck
Givenchy rewrites the intricate play of seasonal rituals with its Holiday 2024 campaign. Bringing a unique sense of elegance and intrigue to the holiday season, the campaign was shot by photographer Mark Kean.
Seen through a nostalgic cinematographic perspective, the short film follows its characters as they engage in games of the intellect: chess, go, a key puzzle. Whether these activities are a metaphor for the intricate social rituals of holidays with family, an ode to bygone days of playing with toys, or a more literal look at cozily passing the time indoors with loved ones, the styling that balances a slick formality with textural moments of festive sparkle deepens the sense of visual intrigue.
The accompanying photographs extend this narrative, introducing more games in clever compositions that create a rich sense of depth.
After several seasons of very low-risk, straightforward campaign imagery from Givenchy as it was in between creative directors, it’s good to see the brand take a more specific and original visual and storytelling perspective – especially as it’s one that departs from your typical holiday narrative. While we’re still eagerly awaiting our first look at what the house will look like in the Sarah Burton era, Givenchy’s holiday game gives us a nice way to pass the time.
