The Japanese Eyewear Brand’s Latest Collection Draws Inspiration from Traditional Woodblock Printing
Eyewear brand JINS has launched its UKIYO collection in the U.S., introducing four distinct frame styles in eight variations, all meticulously crafted in Japan. These designs draw inspiration from five iconic ukiyo-e prints, a traditional form of Japanese art renowned for its global influence on arts and culture.
The collection’s colorways – KOKUSHITSU BLACK, NAMIURA BLUE, SANKA BROWN, AKIBA BROWN, and YORUYUKI GRAY – pay homage to culturally significant ukiyo-e works, including Toshusai Sharaku’s “Otani Oniji III’s Slave Edobei” and Katsushika Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa.” Each frame embodies the rich, seasonal hues found in these masterpieces, allowing wearers to experience a piece of Japan’s traditional aesthetics.
Produced in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan’s renowned eyewear hub, the frames reflect the region’s expert craftsmanship. With bold, sloped cuts, they mirror the dynamic lines and compositions characteristic of ukiyo-e, blending tradition with modern design.
Additionally, the collection’s key visual was generated using AI, incorporating over 1,000 colors drawn from ukiyo-e motifs.
The JINS UKIYO collection is available starting August 22nd at JINS.com, with prices beginning at $290 USD, including prescription lenses.
