Dior Homme offered classic oversized bags that read absolute luxury. Footwear was a bonus as Dior Homme not only offered classic jeweled shoes but casual options too. Jil Sander and Fendi went classic for bags and shoes and let the jewels do the talking. Creative director Silvia Venturini use of pearls at Fendi revealed a romantic and poetic preciousness and vulnerability. Included in the collection’s contemporary reconsidering of classic and elitist gentlemanly tropes is a collaboration with Ledger Nano X, a hardware wallet for crypto currency. On the analogue side of things, bags ranging from the petite – crossbody bags shaped as rectangular prisms, alligator skin wallets held by chains – to the hefty – triangular leather duffle bags, voluminous totes – developed and focused the character of the collection, with their gleaming silver hardware especially bringing out the decadent yet focused dandyism.
Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson has always been interested in transparency, but this collection saw the designer push himself to especially brilliant new territories. From the literal exploration of light to the material approaches that play with what is seen and unseen, he kept us guessing with technical mastery that was constantly revealing unexpected perceptions in clothing as well as accessories.
Louis Vuitton shared Virgil’s final collection. Balancing playfulness and sophistication, Virgil’s work for Louis Vuitton in particular felt like the embodiment of his creative goal to lift people and could be felt in his collection.
