A Reflection on Beauty and Time by Robert Wun
Robert Wun pondered the transient nature of beauty and clothing in his fall collection, named “Time.” Reflecting on the impermanence of things, he stated, “Nothing lasts forever, and that’s the beauty of it.”
The theme of his collection was a retrospective on his label’s 10-year journey, musing on the possibility of another decade of creations. His signature surrealistic touch was evident, with models’ faces covered by various headpieces, adding an element of drama.
The collection opened with black wool dress coats adorned with white beading, reminiscent of freshly fallen snowflakes. Headdress made of autumnal leaves and felt outerwear appearing torn and moth-eaten created a sense of decay and beauty intertwined.
In more abstract designs, Wun layered different textured fabrics to recreate vibrant blossoms, drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of kintsugi. “Sometimes when you put precious things on, even if they’re damaged, the beauty is enhanced,” he explained.
The finale showcased pieces representing human frailty, including a deep red pleated dress resembling the muscular system and a veiled tulle gown shimmering like the cosmos. The intricate detailing of these designs required thousands of hours of handwork.
