Review of Koché

Fall 2022

Review of Koché Fall 2022 Fashion Show

The New Parisian Cool Girl

By Dao Tran

The throng of tight, young, pulsing fans in front of the prestigious Westin hotel was a show in itself – pining, preening, primping, with no way in but all the patience in the world for a bit of proximity or a glimpse of flash. Koché is quite the hot ticket. Christelle Kocher has her finger on the pulse and her PR (Lucien Pages) on the job, not to mention a really cool makeup artist.

The new Parisian cool girl wears Koché, with its juxtaposition of wispy dresses and leather accents, lace and laser-cut leather trims, straps and harnesses.

Boys can get in the club, too, wearing a sheer shirt and harness under the suit.

Known for her mix of high and low, Kocher plays well with contrasts, bringing her couture
know-how as Artistic Director of Maison Lemarié (purveyor of all things feather and floral
for prestigious couture houses), for example, to athletic wear. Fresh off a collab with AC
Milan x Puma, there were also (American) football looks that looked quite fresh – and this
from someone who doesn’t like shoulder pads and has therefore suffered these last few
years.

Speaking of collabs, Kocher teamed up with legendary shoe maker Charles Jourdan for its relaunch with an exclusive mini capsule collection of 6 co-branded models. (Take a look at our details page for a closer look at the shoes, which include a specially developed kitten heel and faux fur accents.)

Other juxtapositions that work very well were softer, more delicate fabrics with substantial leather gloves. I mean, just look at these gloves!

The styling, which could really make a brand, made it pop and – as we found out when we spotted her backstage – was done by none other than stylist extraordinaire Patti Wilson. When I asked Kocher about working with her after the show, she gushed about how great it was because she has such a huge understanding of couture, is visionary, curious and inspiring to her and the team.

About the collection, Kocher said she wanted it to be contemporary, but also like a hug, with the knits, softness and cashmere. I’m sure that bridal dress with the slouchy, oversized sweater top is some girl’s dream come true!

In my opinion, Kocher deserves a hug for her unbridled optimism and message of poetry and beauty.

We could all use that in these unsettling days.
