Balenciaga Continues Art Store Project With New York City Exhibition
Balenciaga’s ongoing Art in Stores project continues with a series of works by Rosie McGinn, exhibited at Balenciaga’s Madison Avenue, New York City location.
For the store, the award-winning, multidisciplinary English artist has created several inflated sculptures, the proportions and movement of which create kinetic caricatures of Balenciaga models Abdou Diop, Ruth Ikondo, Wulfran Merly, and Taishi Suzuki. Each wear a look from the Fall 22 collection’s runway show. The installation iterates on an artwork the artist created in 2018 which depicted a Bingo woman reliving the frenzied rise and fall of a winning ticket. This, and the models in the Manhattan store window, reference familiar air puppets created to attract road traffic to retail sites and lock viewers into a never-ending loop of rise and fall.
