The British Fashion Council confirmed that no London Fashion Week shows, presentations or events will take place on Monday, September 19, the date of The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.
In a statement, the BFC said, “As a business-to-business event London Fashion Week will continue while observing Royal Protocol and the event will be dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with our own moments of respect. Having spoken to designers and industry members, we as an industry want to unite as a creative and business community to celebrate Her Majesty’s legacy and commitment to creativity and design.”
The following changes have been made. All shows on Monday 19th September have been rearranged. Please find an updated schedule here: www.londonfashionweek.co.uk. Also, all parties and events beyond collection presentations and catwalks are to be postponed or scaled back to focus on business. And finally, there will be a celebration of London Fashion Week in October which will include City Wide Celebration as well as parties and events that have been rescheduled (exact date tbc) with designer shows and presentations celebrated during this period.
To pay respects, all union flags will fly at half-mast, there will be a one-minute silence at 8pm on Sunday 18th September, and you are invited to share your tributes on the BFC website, please see here: https://www.britishfashioncouncil.co.uk.
The BFC and London Fashion Week websites will be updated throughout LFW with designers’ collections, imagery and information as normal. The BFC social channel will promote LFW content including imagery and films from Tuesday the 20th of September. The LFW social channel ecosystem will direct to what is happening on the LFW website which will remain a hub for designer creativity.
Further the BFC has stated, “The BFC ask media to support designers both in attendance of shows and in coverage of shows in the context of business, creativity and the stories of the designers behind the businesses who have experienced a period of extreme adversity, facing into more challenging times to come. Never before have businesses needed their community to show up more, both physically where possible and through the power and influence of the community in their professional environments.”
“We ask that you the local and international fashion community attend London Fashion Week and support the designers – it’s been an incredibly challenging two years for the industry so it’s important that we stand together and support the industry for what is an unparalleled commercial opportunity for participating brands and designers.”
Schedule as of 12.09.2022. Please check for updates at LFW.
