Review of Marni Spring 2023 Ad Campaign by Photographer & Director Tyler Mitchell with models Paloma Elsesser, Cranston A, Puma Curry, and Yohana Lebasi
Marni explores metamorphosis and cyclicality with its new Spring 2023 campaign that was beautifully captured by photographer Tyler Mitchell.
Shown in New York City as the first leg in Marni’s multi-season “world tour,” the collection sees creative director Francesco Risso infuse his idiosyncratic vision for Marni with themes of fluidity and circularity, looking to natural cycles like sunsets and ocean tides for inspiration.
Continuing to explore these references, the campaign imagery finds its eclectic group of models in moments of introspection in a location that marks a transition from man-made to natural. Cement and stucco structures give way to beaches and tropical foliage; dappled golden-hour sun plays across their expressive faces or waves lap at their bare feet. Moments of deep red contrast against blue sea, yet threads of harmony and togetherness can be felt running between the natural environment and the wearable art that takes inspiration from its endless yet unchanging movements.
Gorgeous and with a tranquil simplicity that belies the deep thoughtfulness that went into drawing out the conceptual themes of the collection, the campaign is another affirmation of Marni’s place as one of the most artful and distinct voices in fashion.
