The Sculptural Retail Space Was Created with Design Duo Objects of Common Interest
Paris’s Galeries Lafayette Haussmann has unveiled a new corner dedicated to jewelry designer Charlotte Chesnais, created in collaboration with design duo Objects of Common Interest. This partnership aims to transform jewelry display into an art form, integrating Charlotte’s sculptural jewelry designs with OOCI’s unique approach to spatial design.
Charlotte Chesnais, renowned for her ability to push the boundaries of traditional jewelry, encountered OOCI during the 2023 Salone del Mobile at the Nilufar Gallery. “It was love at first sight,” she said, describing a profound connection with the design language of OOCI. Eleni, who forms one half of the OOCI duo, reciprocated the admiration, stating, “The extraordinary sculptural forms that Charlotte creates truly captivated me.” She envisioned reinterpreting Chesnais’s elegant jewelry as larger volumes while maintaining their unique sophistication.
For Eleni, this venture goes beyond mere commercial collaboration; it’s a chance to explore new design concepts and expand creative limits. “This wasn’t just another commercial or retail project; it was an opportunity to explore innovative design concepts and push creative boundaries,” she noted.
The collaboration involved a deep dive into Chesnais’s creative process, allowing Eleni and her team to fully engage with the designer’s sources of inspiration and creative methodology. Material selection played a critical role in translating the aesthetic and emotional intentions of the project, ensuring an immediate connection with the audience.
The design duo explored forms inspired by natural attractions and abstract, organic shapes, aiming to present luxury in a deconstructed and improvisational style. This approach not only engages viewers but also extends and enhances the Charlotte Chesnais brand within the retail space. The project culminated in the creation of a miniature sculpture park, where jewelry and resin elements coexist, creating a dream-like artistic environment. “Our idea was to create a miniature sculpture park, zooming into a microcosm where these elements coexist harmoniously,” Eleni explained, highlighting their goal to evoke a dreamy, immersive world.
