The international award returns for its tenth edition with a €50,000 top prize and an exhibition of 30 shortlisted works in Europe.
The Loewe Foundation has opened submissions for the tenth edition of its annual Craft Prize, inviting artists and artisans worldwide to enter original, handmade work for consideration.
Applications will be accepted through October 15, 2026, with the winner set to be announced in Europe in spring 2027. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or older working in a craft-based profession.
Established in 2016 and first awarded the following year, the prize celebrates innovation and excellence across disciplines including ceramics, textiles, jewelry, bookbinding, lacquer and paper. Its origins reflect Loewe’s own history as an artisanal workshop.
Each entry must be an original work made partly or entirely by hand. An expert panel will evaluate submissions for their originality, artistic vision, execution, materials, innovation and distinct creative identity before selecting 30 finalists. The shortlisted works will be presented in an exhibition in Europe in spring 2027.
A jury will then choose the winning work, whose maker will receive €50,000. Two special mentions will each receive €5,000.
New and returning jurors for the 2027 edition include mixed-media artist Ibrahim Mahama; 2026 Craft Prize winner Jongjin Park; Loewe creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernández; architects Frida Escobedo and Wang Shu; ceramicist Magdalene Odundo; designer Naoto Fukasawa; and Loewe Foundation President Sheila Loewe.
“Over this past decade, the Craft Prize has become a platform for an ever-growing community of artists and artisans around the globe,” Sheila Loewe said, describing the award as a showcase for work that encourages new thinking about craft and its role in contemporary culture.
The 2026 competition attracted more than 5,100 entries from 133 countries and regions. Park received the top prize for Strata of Illusion, a work made with paper and colored porcelain slip. Special mentions went to Graziano Visintin for Collier and to the Baba Tree Master Weavers in collaboration with Álvaro Catalán de Ocón for Frafra Tapestry.
