Alexa Chung, model, TV personality, and internet “IT” girl, announces the closure of her namesake label, Alexachung, today, March 17th. In the caption of an Instagram post on her personal account, which featured six photos of her in Alexachung clothing, the British designer announced that she has been “winding down operations” for her company for a couple months.
Citing the past years as “challenging for small independent businesses” Alexa shares in her post that, “The decision to close was not taken lightly, not least because I am so grateful for the passion and creativity the team at Alexachung brought with them…I am so proud of the company we became.”
Alexa, known for her witty English charm and “Twee” feminine style, started the brand in 2017, after many successful collaborations with established houses. Notably, handbag company Mulberry named their iconic bag, Alexa, after Ms. Chung, a satchel inspired cut which combines “laidback luxury and traditional detailing” – according to their website.
The Alexachung brand website presents the company’s vision as, “to create clothes that people want to wear. Drawing inspiration from the world of music and vintage style, Alexachung injects an inherent British irreverence and witt into its collections. It is inspired by everything from Jane Birkin’s insouciance to David Hockney’s stripy sweater.”
The designer ended her post on a positive note, writing, “Needless to say my enthusiasm for fashion remains undimmed, and with that I thought I would showcase some of my favourite things we have created over the years as a way of celebrating all that we’ve achieved!”
