Deveaux New York Luxury RTW Label Closes Doors Six Years After Launch

Deveaux New York, a luxury ready-to-wear label founded by designers Matthew Breen and Andrea Tsao, has announced its closure after merely six years since its inception in 2016. The brand was distinguished for its commitment to redefining classic pieces for contemporary sensibilities, offering wardrobe staples that embodied a refined interpretation of American fashion.

In its concluding seasons, the prodigious street-style photographer-turned-designer, Tommy Ton, assumed the creative leadership, orchestrating two runway presentations and delivering a total of four distinct collections.

After six years, we have decided to close Deveaux. This has been a beautiful chapter in our lives, and we will always cherish these memories and moments. Thank you to the Deveaux family and community for all the support.

While the specific reasons for this decision were not disclosed, the brand’s closure marks the end of an era. Last year, Deveaux underwent a rebranding effort aimed at aligning its image more closely with its core principle of being product-oriented. Andrea Tsao shared that this pivot was evident in Deveaux’s most recent menswear collection for autumn/winter 2023. This collection embraced the concept of a modular wardrobe, underscoring the enduring trend of American sportswear, a hallmark of many young New York-based brands.

The preceding collection, presented during New York Fashion Week, marked the label’s return to the event after a three-year hiatus. This was also the season when Deveaux reintroduced its menswear line, a departure from its initial focus on womenswear.

Throughout its existence, Deveaux’s aesthetic was characterized by functional apparel, often showcasing influences from workwear and cargo themes, each meticulously tailored to modernize their original designs. The label’s departure leaves a void in the industry, prompting reflections on the challenges faced by contemporary fashion brands.
