'Book Tote Club' Spring 2024 Ad Campaign

Review of Dior ‘Book Tote Club’ Spring 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer Marion Berrin with model Natalie Portman

Dior and Natalie Portman celebrate the joy of reading with a new campaign for the house’s signature Book Tote bag. The iconic actress was lensed by photographer Marion Berrin for the SPring 2024 chapter of the ongoing campaign series.

The imagery follows Portman through the Salle Labrouste, the main reading room of the French National Library in Paris, a book lover’s paradise punctuated by beautiful bookshelves and antique reading lamps. With her tote at her side ready to hold all of her finds, the star exudes a thoughtful naturalism as she immerses herself in books. Two of her favorites are highlighted in particular: Chimères Américaines by Todd Haynes and Elena Ferrante’s widely acclaimed My Brilliant Friend.

The accompanying short film deepens this sense of personal connection with literature and pulls us deeper into the star’s reading world. Across the interviews, Portman shares her thoughts about some of her favorite books and reflects on why they are so resonant with her.

In addition to being part of a digital-savvy series format and having a huge celebrity star, this campaign sets itself apart by sheer thoughtfulness. It can be hard to find the intersection between fashion and books, but it’s a fittingly smart idea for Dior to use its Book Tote as a jumping off point, and to create the space to let an insightful, talented individual share their personal thoughts on the joy of reading. How do we sign up for this book club?
