Gabriela Hearst Designs Uruguay’s Official World Cup Wardrobe

The designer partnered with the Uruguayan Football Association to create custom tailored looks for the national team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup appearances

Gabriela Hearst and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) have unveiled the official tailored uniforms for La Celeste, Uruguay’s national football team, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The presentation took place at Montevideo’s Museo del Fútbol on June 2, marking a collaboration that brings together national pride, craftsmanship, and contemporary tailoring.

Created specifically for the players, the made-to-measure looks center on Hearst’s Irving jacket and Sebastian trousers, crafted with a focus on refinement and detail. Each jacket is lined with 100 percent silk jacquard woven with a tonal interpretation of Uruguay’s national Coat of Arms, while a hand-sewn interior patch embroidered with the player’s name offers a personalized touch.

The uniforms are paired with lightweight ivory micro-merino Stendhal polos, showcasing one of Uruguay’s most celebrated natural resources. Hearst, long recognized for her commitment to material integrity and sustainable practices, chose Uruguayan merino wool as a central element of the project, reinforcing the connection between the national team and the country’s textile heritage.

Completing the look is a custom version of the Ohio sneaker, Gabriela Hearst’s first sustainable sneaker design. While the player-specific embroidered pieces remain exclusive to the team, the Irving jacket, Sebastian trousers, Stendhal polo, and Ohio sneaker will be available through Gabriela Hearst boutiques and online.

For Hearst, the project represents both a professional milestone and a personal one. “It is truly an honor to be able to participate in this project alongside the AUF,” she said. “Not only because I am working with my favorite fiber, Uruguayan Merino wool, or with my national team, but because it is a great opportunity to demonstrate that Uruguayan values of quality, authenticity, and integrity deserve to be shared with the world.”

The collaboration arrives as luxury fashion houses continue to deepen their involvement in international sport, but unlike many sponsorship-driven partnerships, this project draws directly from Hearst’s own heritage. By combining bespoke tailoring, local materials, and national symbolism, the uniforms offer a considered expression of Uruguayan identity as La Celeste prepares to take the global stage in 2026.
