Debuted on the Spring 2025 Runway, the Ohio Sneaker Features Recycled Materials and Sustainably Sourced Leather
Gabriela Hearst has unveiled its first sustainably crafted sneaker, the Ohio, which debuted on the runway during the Spring 2025 show. The new sneaker emphasizes the brand’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship while focusing on reducing environmental impact.
Crafted in Italy, the Ohio sneaker incorporates eco-friendly materials throughout its design. Its rubber soles are made with 30% recycled materials, and its stitches consist of 30% recycled polyester, certified by the Global Recycled Standard. The sneakers feature leather laces that add a unique textural detail to the slip-on style, complemented by an interior elastic ribbon crafted entirely from recycled polyester and natural rubber.
The leather used in the Ohio is 100% sourced from a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group. Additionally, the sneakers are assembled using water-based glue—a more sustainable alternative to solvent-based glues as it contains fewer chemicals and is free from polyurethane.
The Ohio sneaker is initially available in several colorways, including White, White with multicolor stitch detail, Sand, and Light Blue Denim. More vibrant versions are set to follow in Dark Chocolate, Cobalt, Olive, Antelope Orange, and Golden Birch Nabuk leather. The sneaker is available now in Gabriela Hearst’s stores in New York, Beverly Hills, London, and Tokyo, as well as online at gabrielahearst.com.
