Florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, but Copenhagen’s designers found ways to breathe new life into this perennial design trend during the Spring 2025 runway season. Just as winter always gives way to spring, so do florals blossom time and time again in our collective fashion imaginations.
While several of the approaches to floral motifs we saw on Copenhagen’s runways incorporated familiar techniques, like prints or lacy cutouts, these timeless applications took on new meaning in conversation with other unexpected elements to make for a striking total look. Some designers subverted floral delicacy by putting it in conversation with elements of kink and gothic glamor, applying it to functional utilitarian outerwear, or using it as part of sporty-chic high-low looks.
Another way we saw the trend take shape was by literally leaping off the garment; several designers used sculptural appliqué techniques to craft textural moments that blossomed off the silhouette. Scandinavian design is often associated with minimalism, and approaches such as these that embraced the formal side of florals without their color formed an interesting intersection of rigorous minimalism and dainty decoration.
