Juun.J Shows No Sign of Slowing Down in 35th Season
Even after 35 seasons, Juun.J creative director Jung Wook-jun continues to impress by seamlessly blending opposing ideas. Plays on volume and his technique of inflating, streamlining, and refining cuts have always been trademarks of the designer’s work.
The latest collection showcased a fusion of voluminous layers and sophisticated textures, bridging the gap between couture and workwear. The lineup featured a mix of staples like MA-1 bomber jackets, overalls, and tailored jackets combined with mermaid dresses, puffball skirts, and cocoon-like volumes, resulting in an elegant aesthetic.
Shoulders played a crucial role in defining the silhouettes, with the bottom halves either hugging the legs closely or flaring out with kicky hemlines. Transformable pieces, such as extra-wide utility cargo pants that could be zipped into an overskirt, added versatility to the collection.
Jung’s attention to detail was evident in subtle touches like leather collars, lace accents, and mercerized net overlays, enhancing the formal and feminine elements of the designs. The finale featured models sporting blue mesh sports jerseys with the number 35, symbolizing the number of collections Jung has created.
The overall vibe of the collection served as a transition between the dressier mood of men’s spring runways and the upcoming Olympic events in the city. The garments exuded a sense of unity and victory, reflecting the image of a winning team’s parade.
