Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2024 Finalists Revealed

Celebrating Innovation in Modern Craftsmanship

The Loewe Foundation has revealed the 30 artists shortlisted for the 2024 edition of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. These finalists’ works will be showcased at Palais de Tokyo in Paris from May 15 to June 9, 2024. The selected pieces stand out for their innovative use of materials, including repurposed and recycled items like rubber tires and compressed wood, challenging traditional notions of craftsmanship.

Chosen from a pool of over 3,900 submissions representing 124 countries and regions, the finalists hail from 16 different countries and work across various mediums such as ceramics, woodwork, textiles, and more. The panel of experts evaluated each submission based on technical prowess, innovation, and artistic vision.

The Craft Prize, initiated in 2016 by the Loewe Foundation, pays homage to Loewe’s roots as a craft workshop established in 1846. It aims to recognize excellence and innovation in modern craftsmanship, acknowledging the vital role of craft in contemporary culture. Jonathan Anderson, Loewe’s creative director, envisioned the award to celebrate artisans who redefine the standards of craftsmanship for the future.

The exhibition at Palais de Tokyo will feature the works of the 30 finalists and will be documented in an exhibition catalogue. A distinguished jury comprising leading figures from design, architecture, journalism, and museum curatorship will select the winner, who will receive a prize of €50,000. The winner will be announced on May 14, 2024, at the opening of the exhibition.
