Loewe Foundation Spotlights Talia Chetrit in Madrid Exhibition

The photographer’s first institutional solo exhibition in Spain opens during PHotoESPAÑA 2026, bringing together nearly three decades of work

Loewe Foundation has unveiled Bunny, a solo exhibition by New York-based photographer Talia Chetrit at Madrid’s Museo Lázaro Galdiano, opening June 5 as part of PHotoESPAÑA 2026. Curated by Stella Bottai, the exhibition marks Chetrit’s first institutional solo presentation in Spain and forms part of Loewe Foundation’s long-running partnership with the photography festival.

Spanning almost three decades of image-making, Bunny traces Chetrit’s exploration of photography as both medium and subject. The exhibition brings together works ranging from intimate photographs to large-scale prints, juxtaposing early images made during the artist’s teenage years with new works being exhibited for the first time. Through portraits, self-representations, still lifes and fragmented body studies, Chetrit examines themes of family, sexuality, identity and perception.

Known for a photographic practice that moves between vulnerability, provocation and humour, Chetrit uses analogue photography to create visual connections across different periods of her career. Recurring motifs, including chains, breasts, bottles and bellies, appear throughout the exhibition, creating a dialogue between past and present works. Pieces such as Boob Chair (Lygia Pape) (2021) and Ella/Plastic Bottle (2026) demonstrate the range of scales and perspectives that define her approach.

The exhibition also explores motherhood, care and interpersonal dependency through works including Milk on Back (2020) and Untitled (Family no. 1). Rather than presenting motherhood as a fixed identity, Chetrit positions it as part of a broader examination of selfhood, where the roles of artist, subject and parent intersect.

Bunny aligns with PHotoESPAÑA 2026’s theme of “Reimagining,” which examines how photography can challenge established perceptions and narratives. The festival’s focus on the relationship between fashion photography and the creative avant-garde also reflects Chetrit’s practice, which spans both artistic work and commercial projects, including campaigns created for LOEWE.

The exhibition marks the 15th year of collaboration between Loewe Foundation and PHotoESPAÑA, following previous projects dedicated to Dora Maar in 2025 and the Surrealist centennial in 2024, further reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to supporting photography and contemporary visual culture.
