Spring 2025 Ad Campaign

Review of Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Spring 2025 Ad Campaign by Photographers Inez and Vinoodh and model Zendaya

Louis Vuitton revives one of the most iconic fashion collaborations of all time for a new generation. 25 years after the launch of the brand’s partnership with artist Takashi Murakami, the two are reuniting to do it all over again and a lot more. The major collaboration is celebrated with a campaign shot by photographer duo Inez and Vinoodh and starring Zendaya.

Murakami’s colorful riffs on Louis Vuitton’s iconic bags were everywhere after they first debuted in 2000, and they’ve never really gone away; the vintage bags have been in high demand of late and have been seen on the arms of numerous it-girls. Capitalizing on this legacy, the Re-edition collection features some of the original collaboration’s most memorable pieces, as well as applying Murakami’s signature colorful, pop-art style to a wide range of new accessories and ready-to-wear.

One of the younger generation’s most beloved talents, Zendaya feels like the perfect choice to carry that vintage energy forward for a new era. Inez and Vinoodh’s portraits see the star swarmed by Murakami’s colorful flowers and quirky characters as she towers over a a city skyline. The accompanying short videos deepen the playful aspect, seeing the star interact with the cute cartoon creatures – as well as Murakami himself – to bubbly hyperpop soundtracks. The styling and props including a pink flip phone nod to the original collection’s Y2K impact.

The new collaborative collection is a huge move from Louis Vuitton to capitalize on the enduring popularity of one of its most impactful cultural moments. Such a collection deserves an equally colorful and collaborative campaign, and the brand has nailed it. Bringing together throwback style, one of the moment’s biggest talents and fashion icons, and a playful artistic perspective courtesy of Murakami himself, the campaign brightly marks a triumphant return.
