Jonathan Andic Was Detained After Authorities Reopened the Case Surrounding Isak Andic’s 2024 Death
Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango founder Isak Andic, has been arrested by Catalan police in connection with the death of the fashion entrepreneur.
The 45-year-old executive was detained Tuesday as part of a renewed investigation into the death of his father, who died in December 2024 after falling from a ravine while hiking in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona.
The death was initially ruled an accident, and authorities closed the case in early 2025 after reportedly finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, the investigation was later reopened following what Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia described as inconsistencies in Jonathan Andic’s testimony.
Reports surrounding the incident have varied regarding who was present at the time of the fall, with some accounts stating the father and son were alone while others suggested additional family members may have been nearby.

On Tuesday, the Andic family publicly defended Jonathan Andic’s innocence. In a statement shared through authorized family spokespeople, the family said it was “absolutely” convinced that “no legitimate evidence exists or will be found” against him following nearly 18 months of investigation by Catalan authorities.
The statement also called for respect for Jonathan Andic’s presumption of innocence after he was brought before a judge as part of the homicide investigation.
“The conviction of his innocence is absolute,” the family said, adding that they were “confident that the progress of the proceedings will demonstrate it.”
A spokesperson for the family shared that Jonathan Andic was cooperating with investigators and that the family remained confident of his innocence.
Following questioning by police, Jonathan Andic appeared before a judge, who ordered detention with bail set at 1 million euros. Authorities also confiscated his passport and required him to report to the court on a weekly basis.
Jonathan Andic joined Mango in 2005 and later led the company’s Mango Man division. Following his father’s death, he became Vice Chairman of the Board at the Barcelona-based fashion retailer.
Born in Turkey, Isak Andic founded Mango alongside his brother Nahman in Barcelona in 1984, growing the business into one of Europe’s largest fashion retailers with nearly 3,000 stores across 120 countries. At the time of his death, Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5 billion.
In the aftermath of the founder’s passing, Mango Chief Executive Officer Toni Ruiz described Andic’s death as leaving “a huge void,” adding that the company’s future success would be the greatest tribute to his legacy.gacy.
