The project reinterpreted the Gommino through four landmark works of Italian design during Milan Design Week
Tod’s expanded its Salone del Mobile 2026 programming with “Icons by Icons,” a project dedicated to the Gommino and its connection to Italian design history. Presented April 21 at the brand’s Via Savona 56 spaces in Milan, the initiative paired the signature driving shoe with references drawn from four influential works of 20th-century Italian design.

The project reimagined the Gommino through visual and material cues inspired by Joe Colombo’s Elda armchair, Gaetano Pesce’s Crosby chair, Michele De Lucchi’s Kristall table for Memphis Milano, and the Brionvega RR226 Radiofonografo by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Each reinterpretation translated elements of color, structure, and surface into limited-edition versions of the shoe, positioning the Gommino within a broader conversation around Italian industrial and decorative design.

Installed during Milan Design Week, the exhibition placed the original furniture and objects in dialogue with their corresponding footwear interpretations, reinforcing Tod’s longstanding emphasis on craftsmanship and Made in Italy production. The presentation also included live demonstrations by Tod’s artisans, highlighting techniques involved in the construction of the Gommino, including the hand-stitching process that has become central to the product’s identity.

The activation remained open to the public through registration for the duration of the week, extending the brand’s engagement with the broader cultural audience surrounding Salone del Mobile. The limited-edition collection launched exclusively through Tod’s Milan Monte Napoleone boutique and the brand’s e-commerce platform beginning April 21.
