Review of Dior Cruise Holiday 2023 Ad Campaign by Photographer Elina Kechicheva with models Freja Rothmann, Lineisy Montero, and Sherry Shi
Dior sparks magic and mysticism with a new holiday campaign for its Cruise 2023 collection by director and photographer Elina Kechicheva.
Taking inspiration from mythology and Romantic painting, the campaign follows its muses through immersive spaces that toe the line between natural and supernatural: groves of frost-encrusted aspen trees, a carpet of hydrangeas shrouded in mist, a garden pond that recalls John Everett Millais’ iconic Ophelia painting.
The presence of three woman protagonists who link arms and dance suggests the three graces, or perhaps the three witches – an archetype of powerful femininity that plays nicely into creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s ongoing exploration of modern womanhood.
The campaign shows smart thinking from Dior on the kind of leverage and longevity that can and should be brought out of existing creative assets. The collection’s runway presentation in Seville all the way back in June was a creative spectacle in its own right; the arrival of the collection in stores was heralded with a gorgeous and cinematic campaign in October, and now the collection lives again in a lush new light for the holiday season.
